Sonia Sabri Company launches new dance events in conjunction with Transforming Narratives

The dance and live music work is the beginning of a unique international collaboration of three female artists from Birmingham and Bangladesh and is part of the Transforming Narratives project.

Sahasa (The Brave) will take place at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery in February and is an exclusive opportunity to watch a dance and live music open rehearsal and speak to the artists about the development of their new work.

The company says that Sahasa will ‘weave a web of curiosity and debate through bold South Asian inspired dance and soulful Baul music’. Sahasa will be ‘a brave’ encounter with the self and the other in an evolving yet conflicted modern world of values and equal rights.

Sahasa is a response to a research and development trip as part of Transforming Narratives conducted with women in Birmingham and Dhaka around personal aspirations and challenges within a framework of societal, political and cultural demands.

The events are free but pre-booking is recommended for the Sharing and Informal Chat events on Saturday 29 February. Book here.

At the events there will be a chance to speak with the artists directly about the research, concept and creation as part of the rehearsal and sharing.

The company also welcomes the audience’s response to support the creative team along the journey of developing the work further.

Open Rehearsal

Friday 28 February at 2.30pm – 4.30pm.

Free drop in event, in the Round Room.

This is an opportunity to see Sahasa in its creation phase as part of a unique open rehearsal.

Sharing Event and Informal Post Show Chat

Saturday 29 February.

The sharing events with post show chat take place at 12noon-1pm and 2pm-3pm.

Free event, in the Gas Hall.

Sharing is the presentation of work created during a research and development period. It is the showcasing of an idea/ concept - so not a finished or polished complete work but a near ready piece and to inform its final development requires the audience feedback on what is presented to them.

The events are free but pre-booking is recommended for the Sharing and Informal Chat events on Saturday 29 February. Book here.
